The Yorkshire areas where Covid infection rates are currently rising fastest

England’s hospitals now have more Covid-19 patients than during April’s first-wave peak and health bosses have warned the NHS is “back in the eye of the storm.”

Although the coronavirus infection rate is lower in Yorkshire than in London and the South East, it is rising quickly in some areas. Only Scarborough and Rotherham have seen rates fall in the seven days to December 23, the latest available figures. The following 11 Yorkshire areas saw rates rise the fastest during that period. The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). The rate is expressed as the new number of new cases per 100,000 population. Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
