Although the coronavirus infection rate is lower in Yorkshire than in London and the South East, it is rising quickly in some areas. Only Scarborough and Rotherham have seen rates fall in the seven days to December 23, the latest available figures. The following 11 Yorkshire areas saw rates rise the fastest during that period. The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). . Hambleton, North Yorks - up 190.2%
Hambleton had a rate of 224.9 (206 new cases) in the seven days to December 23, up from 77.5 (71 cases) the previous week

. York - up 131.1%
York had a rate of 218.4, (460) in the seven days to December 23, up from 94.5 (199 cases) the previous week

. Ryedale, North Yorks - up 125.1%
Ryedale had a rate of 146.3 (81 new cases) in the seven days to December 23, up from 65 (36 cases) the previous week

. Harrogate, North Yorks - up 36.6%
Harrogate had a rate of 113.8 (183 new cases) in the seven days to December 23, up from 83.3 (134 cases) the previous week

7. Selby, North Yorks - up 24.2%
Selby had a rate of 169.9 (154 new cases) in the seven days to December 23, up from 136.8 (124 cases) the previous week

8. Wakefield - up 22.8%

Barnsley had a rate of 202.1 (499 new cases) in the seven days to December 23, up from 172.2 (425 cases) the previous week

11. Hull - up 16.1%
