Sally and Jamie, who run the Thornhill in Calverley, said they felt it was "the safest thing to do" in a Facebook post today (Monday).
The pair said they were "informed unofficially" that a customer who came into the pub last Wednesday had since tested positive for Covid-19.

The Facebook post read: "We have sought advice immediately from Public Health England and have been told we don’t need to do anything other than clean the pub and continue with our social distancing measures.
"The member of staff has been asked to go and get a test.
"They have been identified as someone who has come into contact with the positive case and been advised to self isolate by tack and trace.
"This person is also showing some symptoms."
Sally and Jamie added: "So then as far as we can see there is a moral decision to be made and we just feel that the safest thing to do is to close the pub until we are confident we can reopen safely and staff are being advised to go and get tested.

The pair said they were feeling "very worried and overwhelmed by the situation".
"We live above the pub with two young children and ourselves are not prepared to take any risks," they added.
"But also the safety of our staff and customers is paramount to us.
