The Cross Keys pub in Hillam announced that it was closing at 6.45pm on Wednesday, September 8.

This is due to staff needing to self-isolate after coming into contact with the person who tested positive for Covid-19.

None of the staff have been tested positive for the virus.

Customers who visited the pub will be contacted by the NHS track and trace service.

The pub aims to open on Monday, September 14.

In a statement, the owners said they were "absolutely gutted" to have to close.

They said: "Unfortunately an hour ago we had to shut the pub, certain staff members have had direct contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Any customers that have been in contact will also be contacted by NHS track and trace service.

"We have had to shut due to lack of staff due to self-isolating over the weekend - we aim to open Monday 14th September.

"The staff who are having to isolate will not be back at work until their isolation period is completed and provided that they haven’t developed symptoms.

"We have spoken to NHS COVID-19 service A LOT this evening. We are keeping informed and updated.

"We are absolutely gutted but we hope to see you all again soon. Stay safe."
