Working with Neil's Greengrocers in Kirkgate Market and other local restaurants, My Thai launched a free delivery service to help the elderly and vulnerable in Leeds.

Following the scheme's success, it has been extended to NHS staff and there are 5559 orders to prepare this week.

The soups, stews and sandwiches are made using fresh local ingredients, before being delivered out to Leeds hospitals and care workers.

My Thai owner Simon Grybas is appealing for donations and volunteers to help the restaurant prepare and deliver the food to our NHS heroes.

Simon, 37, said: "We have 5559 meals to prepare this week and we're looking for volunteers to help with cooking and delivering, and donations.

"We're bulk feeding NHS staff, as now their canteens have closed and they have very little time to shop."

With restaurants and bars closed for the foreseeable future, many have turned to delivery options to keep business afloat.

But Simon isn't disheartened and wants to rally the people of Leeds to help amid the crisis.

Simon said: "You just have to keep going. We might as well help out where we can.

"We're not making any money out of this and we'd encourage other businesses and restaurants to get involved if they can.

"If you know someone who is alone, isolated or may need help please call 0113 244 6818 between 11am and 4pm Monday to Friday."
