Children build 'trusting relationships' with staff at secure children's home in Leeds - Ofsted report
Children build “trusting relationships with staff” at a secure children’s home in Leeds, according to Ofsted inspectors.
Ofsted did not not identify “any serious or widespread concerns” during a monitoring visit at Adel Beck Secure Children's Home on September 17.

Located on East Moor Lane, Leeds, the secure facility provides care and support for boys and girls aged 10 to 17 (up to their 18th birthday) who require a secure setting due to either welfare or criminal justice needs.
The education watchdog said: “Children said they feel happy and safe living in the home. They describe trusting relationships with staff, whom they know well and feel confident to share any concerns or worries with. This supportive environment enables children to gain a sense of belonging, express themselves and feel listened to.
“Staff spoke positively about their roles and responsibilities in the home. They demonstrate a good understanding of the children in their care and have an insight into each child’s needs and experiences.”
An independent advocacy service helps to ensure that children’s voices are heard and acted on. Advocates engage “meaningfully with children,” taking time to understand their wishes, feelings and views.
Staff demonstrate a well-considered and proportionate approach to managing adverse behaviour. The use of restraint, single separation and managing children away from their peers is “clearly documented and only used when necessary to ensure the safety of children and others,” according to the report.
Inspectors added: “Children are searched appropriately and proportionately to maintain their safety and the safety of others in the home.
“However, managerial oversight of these practices is not always sufficiently robust. In response, senior leaders continue to review and strengthen these procedures to ensure greater accountability and consistency.”
The physical environment at Adel beck is “clean and well maintained.” Living units and bedrooms are personalised to reflect the individual preferences of children, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The facility received back-to-back Good inspection grades in 2023 and 2024.
