This is great news for three young people's projects in Leeds

Three projects striving to support disadvantaged and young people in Leeds are to receive cash boosts through BBC Children in Need grants.

New grants of £89,213 mean that the charity now has more than £2.6 million invested across Leeds.

St Luke’s Community and Regeneration Enterprises will benefit from a three-year grant of £29,961 to deliver a youth club for boys in Leeds who live in an area of deprivation.

This project will deliver twice weekly sessions with activities such as sports, DJing, games and biking.

The youth club will provide a safe space for young people to learn new skills, develop friendships and have access to support from trusted youth workers, to help to raise their aspirations for the future.

Family Action receives £29,260, over three years, to deliver a programme to children and young people who have experienced loss of their birth family and difficult childhoods prior to being adopted.

A series of weekend residentials will help them to have fun, develop their skills, encourage friendships and empower them to reach their potential.

Finally, the Shantona Women’s and Family Centre will get a three-year grant of £29,992 to deliver support to girls and young women who are facing disadvantages and barriers to access opportunities.

The programme will help them to develop new skills, through leadership awards and volunteering, encourage them to make new friends in a safe environment, and help to raise aspirations.

Elizabeth Myers, regional head at BBC Children in Need said: “We are extremely pleased to have awarded this new funding to projects in Leeds and look forward to seeing the difference that they make to children and young people’s lives in the coming months and years.”
