Muddy Boots Nursery Gildersome raise £1,805 for young people with cancer

Local nursery Muddy Boots in Gildersome has raised £1,805 for Young Lives vs Cancer, the leading UK charity for children and young people with cancer and their families.
The Gildersome-based nursery has been supporting good causes for many years, and after a parent vote, Young Lives vs Cancer was selected to be the 2025 charity partner.
Over the course of the year, Muddy Boots has taken part in several fundraising events including a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day raffle, a Bonfire Night fundraiser, a Christmas bake sale and a sponsored Teddy Toddle for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, where children at the nursery brought in their favourite teddy and walked together around the local area to raise awareness and funds for the cause.
From the moment of diagnosis, Young Lives vs Cancer’s specialist social workers provide day-to-day support for each child, young person and family. The charity provides accommodation close to hospitals where families can stay together during treatment for free and grants to help families navigate the costs of cancer.
Young Lives vs Cancer relies on charitable donations to fund their vital work supporting children and young people facing cancer and their families across the UK.
Natasha Smith, Nursery Manager at Muddy Boots Gildersome said: “This charity was selected by one of our families as our focus for 2025. It’s been wonderful to engage the children in various events, and we've been amazed by the funds we've raised.
"Our family bonfire night stood out as a highlight, creating a wholesome atmosphere and bringing many of our families together. We're grateful for the opportunity to have supported such a fantastic charity!”
Last year in West Yorkshire, Young Lives vs Cancer helped 230 families to find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.
They gave out 149 financial grants to the value of £23,891 helping families to cope with the costs of cancer. The Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child on active treatment spend an extra £700 a month on things like travel to hospital, food and clothing.
Krissa Ford, Fundraising Engagement Manager at Young Lives vs Cancer said: “I want to say a massive thank you to Muddy Boots Gildersome Nursery for their phenomenal fundraising efforts across 2025.
"The team have raised an incredible amount during our partnership, and as the partnership comes to an end, we want to thank them for their amazing commitment and support.
