Kit Kennedy, who graduated from Leeds Trinity University in December 2018 with a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, is running the online workshops as part of a business venture to support novice writers.

The September to December workshops focus on finding inspiration, building characters, developing points of view, and narrative mapping.

Australian born Kit began teaching at Horsforth while also working as a freelance copywriter.

Her work has been published around the world and she has written two novels, and presented at the Ilkley Literature Festival.

Now pursuing a PhD in creative writing, she said: “The MA in Creative Writing has polished my writing, given me confidence in my narrative skills, and helped me build a career that I love.

Through the support of Martyn Bedford and Amina Alyal at Leeds Trinity, my stories have taken on greater depth, a richer voice, and are now that much more powerful and engaging.”

In August 2020, Kit received £500 from Leeds Trinity University’s Inspiring Futures Programme Enterprise Fund to help her business, and will use it to create workshops in Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and York.

Next year, Kit plans to schedule in-person workshops and regular face-to-face writing classes in and around Yorkshire. She also hopes to publish her novels and become a full-time writer.

Greg Barnes, Head of Department for Business and Law at Leeds Trinity University, said: "We are always proud to support Leeds Trinity students and alumni with their business ventures through the Inspiring Futures Programme.

"We are delighted to support Kit as she uses her experience and the skills she gained whilst studying here to guide new and aspiring writers in their own creative writing pursuits."

The Inspiring Futures Programme financially supports students who want to study abroad or compete in elite-level sport alongside their studies, and recent graduates who want to develop their own business.
