Benton Park School issues statement on upcoming exams as wind damage closes Leeds school

The secondary school in Rawdon has been forced to close after its roof was 'badly damaged' by high winds.

There are 1,300 pupils at the school and many will have exams later this year.

In a letter sent to parents on Monday, seen by the YEP, the school said it was working closely with Leeds City Council to support staff and students.

Plans are being discussed for the school to partially open for exam classes later this week at an alternative site.

The letter read: "We will be sending out work to students so they can continue with their studies during this closure period and will send some further guidance regarding access to school systems to support this process.

"It is important that students approaching exams utilise their time to revise across their subjects."

The letter also confirmed that Thursday's Year 9 parents' evening has been cancelled.

Contractors will assess the roof's condition once winds have died down and a decision will then be made on whether the school can reopen.
