AVSED, the trusted charity supporting older people in Aireborough, has proudly announced the launch of its innovative new service, AVSEDplus. This initiative is designed to offer daytime support to individuals living with dementia and memory impairment and provide respite to carers and families, addressing a vital gap in care provision.

Recognising the growing need for tailored support within the community, AVSED has developed its dementia activity service. This programme serves as a bridge between existing community services and full day-care options, offering a balanced approach for those requiring additional assistance.

Debbie Fawthrop, manager at AVSED, shared her insights: “AVSEDplus has been created after realising that many of our members need more extended support than our current activities provide before transitioning to full day centre care. With this new service, we are able to offer individuals and families a choice of community-based fun, stimulating, and therapeutic daytime activities.”

The AVSEDplus programme officially launches in January with two open days on the 7th and 9th, providing an opportunity for prospective participants and their families to explore what is on offer. Following this, the service will operate every Tuesday and Thursday from 28th January, running from 10am to 3pm. Each session includes a blend of physical, therapeutic, and social activities, along with morning snacks, a delicious lunch, and afternoon tea. The cost is £50 per day and financial support may be available depending on circumstances.

The service is open to anyone in the area living with mild to moderate memory impairments and aims to provide support not just to individuals but also to their families and carers. By promoting health and well-being, encouraging skill and ability maintenance, and fostering social engagement, AVSEDplus seeks to reduce loneliness and isolation while offering valuable respite to caregivers.
