The supermarket took to Twitter to announce the news on Thursday - amid thousands of replies of praise for the recognition from the supermarket for teachers.

The scheme is set to begin on November 2.

Teachers will be required to show their identification at the till to enable the discount to be taken off the price of their shopping.

Teachers’ discount isn’t available to staff from private nurseries, colleges, 6th form colleges or universities, Morrisons said.

In reply to a question about a possible discount scheme, Morrisons tweeted: "All day everyday beginning on Monday 2 November and running until Sunday 3rd January 2021.

"Teachers just need to show their ID at the till and we will give them 10% off their shopping."

Morrisons also confirmed in a separate tweet that Nutmeg clothing would be included in the scheme.

It is believed the scheme will apply to all teachers working in primary, secondary and private schools.

The discount will also be able to be used by teaching assistants, dinner and cleaning staff according to a social media post.

Morrisons later tweeted: "To say thank you to Teachers for getting our children back to school through the pandemic, we'll be running a discount scheme, offering 10% discount off in our stores only (NOT VALID FOR ONLINE)".

The scheme is set to run until January 3.

The teachers’ discount cannot be used in conjunction with a Morrisons Staff Discount Card, Blue Light Card Discount or with the NHS Discount.
