We have lost a number of popular restaurants, bars, pubs and shops due to spiralling costs, while other owners have moved on to new ventures. The following 17 businesses are among those to have closed their doors in 2022.
13. Fabrics For All
Fabrics for All in Armley closed down in November due to the rising pressures of the cost of living crisis. The fabrics shop was opened by Sarah Johnston (pictured) in September 2017. She is moving back to her home in the North East to pour her efforts into a new business venture. Photo: Google/Sarah Johnston
14. Clarks
Clarks has recently closed its Leeds city centre shoe store, leaving its shop in the White Rose Shopping Centre as its only presence in the city. The YEP understands that the brand hopes to return to the city centre in the future. Plans approved by Leeds City Council show that the former site will become home to a new Ernest Jones jewellery store. Photo: Georgina Morris
15. Beer Hawk
Leeds bar Beer Hawk closed suddenly this month, leaving burger joint Slap and Pickle searching for a new home. Slap and Pickle's owner James Tabor issued an appeal for a new home in an attempt to keep his staff employed. Photo: National World
16. Assembly Underground
In a second blow, Slap & Pickle also lots its home in Assembly Underground after the city centre pub and food hall closed down on December 23. The venue, located on Great George Street, has hosted various food traders over the years, as well as a bar serving Vocation Brewery drinks. Photo: Google
17. Frankie and Benny's
The Frankie and Benny's restaurant in Kirkstall has recently shut down and had its sign removed. The New-York Italian-inspired chain’s website no longer lists the Kirkstall Road site as one of its restaurants, but its restaurants in the White Rose and Junction 27 retail park are still open. 18. Le Chalet
City centre restaurant Le Chalet announced this month that it is closing down as rising pressures meant it was "fighting" just to break even. Le Chalet, opened by Nermine George (pictured) in 2013, has been serving customers at its Park Row base for close to a decade. It will open until January 15 to allow customers to redeem vouchers before closing permanently. Photo: James Hardisty
