How to claim your 50% off in the Eat Out To Help Out scheme in Leeds

Eat Out To Help Out is a new scheme which can be used at restaurants to get 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks.

The scheme means that bills could come down if you eat in or drink in.

The plan is a bid to get customers back into restaurants - while complying with social distancing regulations - and give food and drink businesses a boost after having been closed for months.

The scheme allows for 50% off food and non-alcholic drinks up to a total value of £10 per person if you eat in or drink in. So a £40 bill for your meal for two people could become just £20.

The government will pick up the tab for the discount, so the restaurants are not missing out on any money.

A cut in VAT from 20% down to 5% means a lot of restaurants will also be cheaper than before, with several choosing to pass on VAT savings directly to customers.

The scheme

When will I be eligible for the 50% Eat Out To Help Out discount?

The scheme will be in operation ever Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between August 3 and August 31.

You can use the scheme as many times as you like.

You don’t need a voucher to use the scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts. There is no minimum spend.

Alcoholic drinks and service charges are excluded from the offer.

More than 100 Leeds restaurants, including big chains like Subway and McDonald's and smaller independents.

Launching the scheme, Chancellor Rishi Sunak said: "To get customers back into restaurants, cafes and pubs, and protect the 1.8 million people who work in them, I can announce today that, for the month of August, we will give everyone in the country an Eat Out to Help Out discount."
