From Mexican grub and cocktails at Neon Cactus to fighting to get to the bar at Call Lane Social and dancing the night away in Jake’s Bar, the street boasts some of the best bars in the city – and I inevitably end up there at least once a month. It’s Leeds’ best party street (IMHO) and despite the knockbacks of Covid, the venues are thriving.
Here is my ultimate guide to a night out on Call Lane, with 20 bars and restaurants to choose from – and I’ve been to them all.
19. Roland's
It might be hard to imagine right now, but Roland's is one of my favourite places in the summer - with a brilliant terrace and garden room to enjoy the evening sun with a gin cocktail from its great selection. It's laidback but with heaps of atmosphere. Photo: Steve Riding
20. The New Penny
Our last stop on Call Lane is The New Penny - the oldest gay bar in Leeds and one of the very best. There's drag performers, games and live entertainment and brilliant drinks deals (jaeger bombs for £3!). Photo: Steve Riding
