Young Garforth boy donates dementia book and a sleuth of Christmas bears to local charity
Visitors at Garforth’s Network Elders Team (NET) centre received an early festive surprise this week when 10-year-old Beau Denver visited with his dad to donate a copy of their new dementia-themed children's book "Cup o’ Tea?" along with a sleuth of Christmas bears for older members of the community.
Beau, handed the book to NET’s manageress, Monica Walker, who proudly accepted the gift on behalf of the charity.

The donation was inspired by Beau’s own experience of losing his grandma to dementia, a story gently told in the book.
The teddy bears have a special connection: a bear features throughout "Cup o’ Tea?", symbolising comfort, memory and the importance of small acts of kindness when families face dementia together.

Beau said: "I wanted to do something kind for older people who might be feeling lonely this Christmas.
"Dad told me that NET do incredible work in Garforth and often helped my Grandma, so this felt like the perfect place to find a loving companion for the festive bears. Grandma had a teddy bear too, but you’ll have to read my book to learn his name. It comes out on Amazon on the 25th of November!"
Beau, who is in Year 6 at GSAL, proudly admits he had a little help from dad in writing his first book, a project the pair hope will make it easier for children to understand dementia and talk about it openly.
Monica Walker described Beau as "a thoughtful and caring young lad" and said the bears would bring "a lot of Christmas smiles to our members."

According to NET’s website, the charity supports older people and promotes volunteering, friendship and community spirit in Garforth and surrounding villages.
"Cup o’ Tea?" is released on 25th November on Amazon, with a focus on raising awareness of how dementia affects families and helping children navigate the emotions that come with it.
