York ranked the UK’s second summer love capital in new romance study
Longer evenings, warmer weather and the sudden urge to book a table somewhere nice are all clear signs that summer date season has arrived across the UK.

If there’s one place that seems to get people planning a bit more than just a casual walk and a pint, it’s York, which comes in as the UK’s second-ranked summer love capital.
The study, carried out by Trusted Psychics, ranked 49 UK towns and cities by analysing six per-capita indicators linked to romance. These included search interest in date-night activities, the availability of high-rated romantic restaurants, romantic hotels, florists, romantic events, and proposal or wedding photographers. Data was drawn from Google Maps, Google Trends, Tripadvisor and Eventbrite, with results normalised per 10,000 people.
There’s a clear sign that locals and visitors are actively thinking about date ideas here, with York ranking 1st in the entire study for date-night and romantic things to do searches. That figure sits at 549.97 searches per 10,000 people, which is well ahead of most other cities and suggests people are properly looking for inspiration rather than just stumbling into plans.
When it comes to actually carrying those plans out, York holds up strongly too. It ranks 2nd for high-rated romantic restaurants, with 7.29 per 10,000 people, so there’s no shortage of places to sit down and make a night of it. Add in its 4th place ranking for romantic hotels, at 1.17 per 10,000 people, and it’s clearly set up for those weekend break vibes where you don’t really need to rush anywhere.
The city also performs well for atmosphere and things going on, ranking 4th for romantic events with 9.82 per 10,000 people. That gives it a steady stream of things to do beyond just dinner, whether it’s a low-key event or something a bit more planned out.
It’s not perfect across every category though. Florists sit further down at 14th place with 2.60 per 10,000 people, and proposal and wedding photographers rank 15th at 2.54 per 10,000 people, which suggests York leans more towards experiences and evenings out rather than big milestone services.
Just behind Bath and York, places like Edinburgh also score strongly, but the numbers show Bath edging ahead mainly on dining, hotels and events rather than just search interest. Edinburgh performs well for both searches and hotel availability, but neither quite matches Bath’s overall balance across the board.
At the other end of the scale, the data suggests some cities are a bit more limited when it comes to romance-led options. Stoke-on-Trent comes in last, with just 0.72 high-rated romantic restaurants per 10,000 people and only 0.03 romantic hotels per 10,000 people, which is a stark contrast compared to Bath.
Bradford and Wakefield also sit towards the bottom, with relatively low scores across searches, venues and events, making it a bit trickier to stumble across those easy date-night options without planning ahead.
