West Yorkshire Housebuilder celebrates recent volunteering at Leeds charity
Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West is highlighting its employees from its land, construction, commercial, sales, customer care and finance teams, who recently provided helping hands for a range of initiatives across the county.
The volunteering began with employees helping out at Zarach, the division’s charity of the year. The charity, who were also founded in Leeds, has a mission to end child bed poverty across the UK, including for its beneficiaries in West Yorkshire.

Zarach’s story started in 2017 when a primary school teacher, Bex Wilson, rallied friends and family together to help provide beds for three pupils who were previously sleeping on a sofa cushion. Since then, the charity has provided over 14,000 beds to those in need, helping them to engage better at school.
The team at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West spent the day supporting the charity by helping to deliver beds to those in need.

Another team then volunteered at Bradford based charity, Surplus to Purpose, a social enterprise founded to tackle the critical issue of food waste by promoting a more sustainable and socially responsible approach to food.
The enterprise fulfils its mission by transforming surplus food destined for disposal into valuable resources for communities, events, and schools across the UK to ensure surplus food feeds people, not bins.
The developer’s team supported the charity by sorting and organising fruit and vegetables at the enterprise.
Across multiple days, a number of employees also supported The Well Project, a charity based in Normanton. The charity began operating in 2007 from the back of a minibus as a response to the growing concerns about anti-social behaviour amongst young people in the town.
The developer helped support the charity’s Meet n Eats Diner, a place where people can enjoy a home-cooked, three course meal to help combat social isolation.
As well as this, other employees volunteered at the charity’s shop, The Well Loved Shop, and provided helping hands at The Well Project’s foodbank.
Finally, the developer’s land and finance teams supported Candlelighters, a Leeds based charity that supports children with cancer and their families, by wrapping Christmas presents for the children.
Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our team for giving up their time for these amazing charities. Each charity provides unique and essential support for the West Yorkshire community, and we’re thrilled to offer them some helping hands.”
