Leeds Restaurant Dishes Out £5 Ramen to Fight the Freshers Flu

Research has shown that students splash out a huge £500 during Freshers Week. With this in mind, Leeds Japanese restaurant Maki & Ramen has launched an initiative to get local students back on track with their health, and ease the strain on their pockets.

On the last day of Freshers Week (Friday September 26), the first 500 students through the doors of Maki & Ramen Leeds will receive a steaming bowl of delicious ramen for just £5 from when the doors open at 12noon.* The students will need to show valid student ID to accept the offer.

Maki & Ramen’s campaign, “Fight the Freshers Flu,” aims to help students fend off the exhaustion and that run-down feeling that comes at the end of a hectic week of late nights and new routines.

By bringing the cost of ramen down to £5, Maki & Ramen is not only nodding to the £500 average spend figure but also serving up a warming, nutritious meal packed with rich broth, noodles and fresh toppings at a time when students need it most.

Sophie Wang, Maki & Ramen’s Executive Chef for England, commented: “Freshers Week is an exciting but demanding period for new students, and it can leave many feeling burnt out. Our ramen is high in both protein and collagen so a hearty, warming and healthy option for Leeds students when they could be feeling a little run down.

“We wanted to offer something that is fun and affordable, whilst also reminding students that looking after their health doesn’t have to cost the earth.”

Queues are expected to form outside the Leeds restaurant as students take advantage of the flash promotion, creating buzz around both the university community and the city’s growing food scene.
