Hospitals charity given £3,000 by West Yorkshire homebuilder

MY Hospitals Charity, the official charity of Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, has received a £3,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to support its vital work enhancing the services provided across Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals.

The donation made by the leading housebuilder will directly support the Mid Yorkshire Regional Adults’ Burns Centre and Regional Children’s Burns Unit.

Established in 1966 at Pinderfields Hospital, the Regional Burns Service was the first NHS funded purpose-built facility in Britain for the treatment of major burns. It currently serves a population of over five million people across Yorkshire, The Humber and North Lincolnshire.

Kathryn Box, Funding and Impact Manager at MY Hospital Charity, said: “We were delighted and incredibly grateful when Barratt and David Wilson Homes got in touch. Being chosen to receive the donation was a wonderful surprise and will make a real difference to our patients and our staff.

“Without donations from organisations such as Barrat and David Wilson Homes, we wouldn’t be able to make a difference for our communities and local population during what can often be challenging times.

“On the Burns ward, we have funded improvements to patient areas to create more calming and relaxing spaces. We have also funded training and conferences so staff can learn all about the most advanced medical treatments, in addition to state of the art medical equipment and trials - both of which vastly improve patient outcomes.

“From everyone at MY Hospitals Charity, the Burns Unit and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, I’d like to say a big thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for its support and for selecting us to receive this generous donation.”

Sales Manager Gill Hurst nominated MY Hospitals Charity to receive the donation after her niece, Beau, required the Children’s Burns Unit at a young age. Gill and Beau visited Pinderfields Hospital to present the charity with the cheque as well as to thank the team for their pioneering treatment and wonderful care.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Redrow Foundation Community Fund initiative, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

The Barratt Redrow Foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, it has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supported over 2,000 different charities, and is estimated to have directly impacted 100,000 young people each year.

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said:“We’re incredibly proud to support MY Hospital Charity and the brilliant work it does with this donation.

“The hospital plays a significant role to so many in the community, and we hope this donation can go a small way in showing the staff how appreciated their work is.
