Charity that makes ‘tremendous difference’ to people’s lives celebrates donation
A charity that makes a ‘tremendous difference’ to the lives of older people in Leeds is celebrating after receiving a donation from Persimmon Homes.
Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF) received a £3,000 donation from the national housebuilder after applying to its Community Champions initiative.

The charity, which supports hundreds of people aged 55+ in Burmantofts, say the donation will go towards helping to take its members on day trips to make memories.
Persimmon and local Leeds City Councillors Luke Farley, Asghar Khan and Nkele Manaka were on-hand to present the cheque recently.

BCF member Rita Green, 98, says the organised trips away are “so important”.
Thanking Persimmon, Rita said: “Thank you for thinking of us recycled teenagers. Being able to go out together and enjoy trips is so important for us. You have allowed us to plan for more adventures.”
BCF Service Manager, Sheila Davenport, and Wellbeing Lead, Sean Carr, said: “Thank you for the donation to BCF.
“Our members will make amazing memories due to your kindness. Everyone is excited.”
Councillor Luke Farley who represents Burmantofts and Richmond Hill said: “Myself and fellow ward colleagues, Asghar Khan and Nkele Manaka, would like to offer a huge thanks to Persimmon for this very generous donation to Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF).
“Day-in, day-out, BCF makes a tremendous difference right across our local area, connecting over-55s, providing support and advice, and helping to take on the scourge of social isolation.
“This generous donation from Persimmon will help BCF in its work to support older residents living across Burmantofts and help to ensure that the organisation is there for everyone who needs it. A huge thank you to everyone at Persimmon for this financial assistance!”
Ben Bowman, Persimmon West Yorkshire Senior Land Manager, said: “It was such a pleasure to visit Burmantofts Community Friends and see first-hand the work Sheila, Sean and the team are doing to support people in the community.
“Through our Community Champions programme, we’re proud to support local community organisations and we hope this donation goes far in helping BCF continue to do their vital work.”
