Charity serves hot meals to fundraising trekkers taking on Yorkshire Three Peaks for trauma charity

Volunteers from charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) were on hand in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to serve hot meals to participants taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising vital funds for Day One Trauma Support.

The event, organised by Day One Trauma Support, saw participants ascend the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside, and Pen-y-ghent — covering 24.5 miles and 5,000ft of ascent across the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park. All funds raised go towards supporting individuals and families affected by traumatic injuries.

RRT Leeds volunteers set up at Horton-in-Ribblesdale — the heart of the challenge — around midday, serving 132 burger meals to keep participants fuelled as they tackled the iconic route. A team of 15 volunteers supported the event.

Day One Trauma Support provides expert, practical, and emotional support to people of all ages affected by traumatic injury. The charity works across major trauma centres in the UK, ensuring no one faces the aftermath of a life-changing injury alone.

This marks the third consecutive year RRT Leeds has supported the event, having first deployed in 2024.

Bruce Dickson, RRT Leeds Local Team Leader, said: “The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a remarkable challenge and every person taking part is doing something truly incredible, not just in terms of physical endurance but in the cause they’re supporting. Day One Trauma Support does life-changing work for people at some of the most difficult moments imaginable.

“It was our privilege to be out on the route at Horton-in-Ribblesdale once again this year, to serve a hot meal and offer a moment of encouragement to every participant passing through. We hope it gave them the boost they needed to reach the summit.”
