Yorkshire Amateur League: Second-half surge steers Horsforth St Margarets to six-goal success

The mid-table side led 1-0 at half-time but Saints strengthened their grip on top spot by eventually winning 6-2.

Horsforth’s win was something of a double whammy as second-placed Farsley Celtic Juniors slipped up, 2-1 at third-placed Wortley, Ryan Sharrocks netting both goals for the victors.

Five different players got themselves on the scoresheet in Stanley United’s 5-2 victory over fourth-placed Littletown.

Rhys Bruce, Ras Diamond, Ashley Downing, Ben Laycock and Sinan Omar were on the mark for a United side that looks to have turned a corner.

Route One Rovers went fifth on the ladder courtesy of a better goals difference which was boosted by Saturday’s 7-2 home win over Ryburn United.

Second-bottom Drighlington upset the form book with a 4-4 draw at sixth-placed Athletico.

Sandro Balde bagged a brace of goals for the visitors with Valdo Costa and Louis Swallow also netting.

In the Premier, the juggernaut that is Middleton FC continued to steamroller everyone before them.

Third-bottom Ealandians put up game resistance and were rewarded with a couple of goals against the leaders, scored by Alex Kaye and sub’ Michael Ruthven, but it wasn’t enough to alter the almost-inevitable outcome.

It finished 4-2 with Callum Barron, Richard Collier and James Law (2) scoring for Middleton who now hold a commanding 14-point lead over second-placed Golcar.

Golcar slipped up in dramatic fashion, losing 6-1 at mid-table Collegians.

Resurgent Nostell MW also hit their hosts for six, defeating Shire Academics 6-2 to cement their top-four status. George Hardy scored a goal in each half for Shire, who trailed 4-1 at the break. Amir Berchil struck twice for Nostell with Nigel Chambwe, Tafadzwa Mumbanya, Liam Ormsby and Alfie Proctor keeping the scoreboard ticking over with further goals.

Stanningley OB were beaten 2-0 by visiting Morley Town, but the sixth-placed outfit didn’t have everything its own way.

Robert Gumley opened the scoring for Town, after four minutes.

The visitors then had to be really patient for their second – Marc Haley’s goal not coming until nine minutes from time.

Championship leaders TVR United eventually managed to shake off determined visitors Idle FC, 4-3.

Faisal Shabir scored in the opening and penultimate goals for TVR with Hasnain Mohammed netting in the second half and Abid Khan finishing things off.

Aaron Irving, Adam Medley and substitute Jack Strudwick found the back of the net for Idle.

Lowly Crofton Sports were no match for mid-table Leeds M&D Res, losing 2-0 at home, and the same can be said of fellow strugglers Gomersal & Cleckheaton who were hit for six by second-placed Horsforth SM Res. It finished 6-1.

The same result was posted after Hanging Heaton were reduced to nine players by the end of their encounter at Woodkirk Valley.

George Porter scored Heaton’s consolation goal while James Tesseyman and sub’ Christie Woods notched braces for Woodkirk with Ellis Byrne and Benjamin Holdsworth adding to the total.

Horsforth St Margarets Reserves came up with all the smart moves to see off tenacious hosts Fairbank United, 3-2.

Matthew Smart opened Horsforth’s account after 23 minutes then Daniel Smart struck twice in the second half after coming on off the bench.

Leaders Leeds Independent are five clear of Leeds City Res after their 3-2 win at Middleton Park Res.

Xyon Outerbridge-Smith scored two of the goals and Yousif Tashani the other. Jamie Kenny and Bradley Noble were on target for Park. City, who have a game in hand on the leaders, had little trouble in disposing of second-bottom visitors Athletico Res, 5-0.

Reuben Young and sub’ John Strandley each struck twice with Reece Archer making up the nap hand.

Fourth-placed Farsley Celtic Juniors Res needed a late, second-half goal from substitute Andrew Rothery to put their home encounter with Shire Acadmics Res to bed.

It finished 2-1, Danny Kemp and Andy Ramsden scoring in the first half for Celtic and Shire respectively.

Beeston St Anthonys turned a 2-0 half-time lead into a 5-0 home win over Morley Town Res, while bottom club Thornesians put in another brave effort but were eventualy beaten 3-1 by hosts Tyersal.

Aiden Craytorne and Kenneth Erhabor (2) netted for the home side with Jordan Page turning in a goal for Thornes.
