UK heatwave: Beautiful beaches to visit in Yorkshire within a two hour drive from Leeds

Leeds is set for scorching temperatures this weekend as the heatwave sets in.
If you were planning a trip a little further afield, then Yorkshire is full of stunning beaches to soak up the sunshine.
Here are 10 fantastic beaches that are within a two hour drive from Leeds.
People can also visit the areas using public transport, in particular, the Coastliner services that run from Leeds Bus Station to Scarborough or Pickering & Whitby.

Here are some of the best beaches within an easy drive of Leeds
Filey beach is clean and idyllic, with a large stretch of sand, making it the perfect place for a family day out or a dog walk. It is a 1 hour 35 minute drive to the quaint North Yorkshire seaside town. The quickest way is to go via the A64.
It would not be a round-up of Yorkshire beaches without a mention to everyone's favourite - Bridlington. The fatest route is via the A64 but you can also drive via M62 and A614. It takes one hour and 45 minutes by car.
From the calm waters of the marina to the sands of Scarborough bay, there's plenty on offer here in this seaside down. It takes about one hour and 39 minutes to get to Scarborough via the A64.
Saltburn Beach is a popular family beach located in North Yorkshire, where you can paddle, swim, surf, hunt for fossils and see the donkeys donkeys. You can also stroll also the pier and grab a tasty portion of fish and chips, or grab an ice cream and if you fancy it you can visit the valley gardens or the steam railway. It takes one hour and 29 minutes to drive via the A1(M) and A19.
Staithes is not as well known as these other beaches but it's packed full of character. It's just 1 hour 40 by car from Leeds and has a lovely picturesque village that's well worth exploring. It used to be one of the North Sea's biggest fishing ports, so it's jam packed full of history too. It takes one hour and 42 minutes to drive to Staithes.
Cayton Bay beach is a long, wide beach that is perfect for sandcastle building. This beach is popular amongst visitors and although it may have quite a steep hill down to it with quite a few steps, it’s definitely worth a visit. It takes one hour 35 minutes to drive to Cayton Bay via the A64.
Hornsea beach is a traditional family friendly sandy beach with some shingle. The beach has split levels due to groynes which trap the moving sands but there are access points for less able-bodied visitors. It's 1hr and 35minutes from Leeds.
