Going for a family day out used to mean soggy sandwiches for lunch or something from the vending machine. Not any more.
Now there are many places I want to visit this Easter for the food, not just to keep the kids entertained.
Here are some of my top picks for days out in Yorkshire.
7. Wentworth Garden Centre, Rotherham
It also backs onto Wentworth Garden Centre where there’s a nice canteen-style cafe and a place for the kids to play and buy ice cream - if they aren’t into the history of Wentworth Woodhouse as much. | Dean Atkins/National World Photo: Dean Atkins/National World

8. The Shambles, York
Family life is all about compromise which is why we all love York because t’old wife loves history and the kids and I are huge Harry Potter fans. If you’re having a ramble down The Shambles, which feels as magical as Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley, don’t forget the real gem of this area is the outdoor street food market. I’ve done a few reviews here because the food is so good. | James Hardisty/National World Photo: James Hardisty/National World
9. Spark, York
If you’re doing a walking tour of York another foodie haven is Spark York, which also has lots of independent food vendors. | Gary Longbottom/National World

10. Trinity Kitchen, Leeds
Having variety is key with our family because even ordering a takeaway can be hard, but to avoid eating out at buffets all the time food courts are where it’s at. | Simon Kirk - ActualPixels Photog
11. Kirkgate Market, Leeds
On a day out in Leeds we love Trinity Kitchen or Leeds Kirkgate Market, which looks set to get a brand new food village | Simon Hulme/National World
