Tourists and day-trippers flock to pretty towns such as Harrogate, Ilkley and Hebden Bridge, but there are many wonderful lesser-known places that are well worth seeing. Under current Covid guidelines, you can meet up outside with groups of up to six people, or two different households. Here are 10 of the best villages within an easy drive of Leeds that may be less familiar.
7. Skidby

8. Burnsall
Burnsall lies on a bend of the River Wharfe surrounded by a spectacular circle of fells. The village was originally an Anglo-Viking settlement and the parish church still contains rare Viking and Anglo-Saxon carved stones. Drive: 1hr to 1hr 15mins
9. Thornton-le-Dale
Thornton-le-Dale is a pretty village on the edge of the North York Moors. A woodland footpath runs from the car park to the village and there are plenty of local walks to take in the surrounding countryside. Drive: 1hr 15mins
10. Marsden
