The first-ever Kite Festival at Lotherton Hall in Leeds dazzled visitors, as colourful kites soared through the skies despite challenging weather conditions

Colourful kites filled the skies above Lotherton Hall this weekend as the attraction hosted its first-ever Kite Festival.

The two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday (August 22 and 23), brought kites of different shapes, sizes and colours to the Aberford estate, with professional fliers travelling from across the country to take part.

However, the weather proved something of a challenge on the festival's opening day, with a lack of wind meaning some of the kites had to remain grounded rather than taking to the skies.

Despite the tricky conditions, there was still plenty for visitors to see, with the event featuring giant inflatable kites, including designs depicting well-known characters, alongside stunt flying and other displays.

The festival, organised by the Northern Kite Group, also included a parachuting teddy bear drop, while visitors could enjoy the wider attractions at Lotherton, including food stalls and family entertainment.
