Voujon Indian Restaurant and Takeaway: Inside the fine-dining Leeds spot turning up the heat in Headingley
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
Voujon Indian Restaurant and Takeaway opened on Otley Road in Far Headingley in 2018 and has become a firm favourite of local residents while remaining a hidden gem.
But as more Indian restaurants have opened and competition has grown in the area, co-owner Syd Miah said he feels that now is the time to remind people about the business and what makes it special.
Mr Miah’s family opened their first restaurant in the early 1990s and went on to establish themselves in York and Hull, where they won countless awards and became a go-to for locals.

Mr Miah said that he was keen to bring the Voujon name to Leeds as well though, saying: “I became part of the business in my late teens and we had established ourselves elsewhere because of the family and business connections.
“But when the opportunity came to open in Leeds and to create a platform over here I jumped straight at it.”
Since opening, Voujon has become adored by customers for a host of reasons, most primary of which is the sensational standards of the food.
He said: “Where we are different is we have all the old favourites but then we put a contemporary twist on them. We’re all about changing it up.”

Some of the most impressive and popular dishes on the menu include the Special Sizzler Juliette, which is made up of tandoori lamb or chicken doused in French brandy and set on fire in front of the recipient - making it a firm favourite on social media.
He also highlighted the tandoori duck and the selection of fish dishes, saying: “I can guarantee that you won’t find them in any other Indian restaurant in Leeds.”
Decades of travelling have also informed the menu’s options, with dishes picked up from visiting Bangladesh, Nepal and Thailand being reimagined for the restaurant.

Also enticing customers back is the high standard of service received, with Mr Miah saying that half of those coming through the door are repeat custom and people he has become on first name terms with.
The restaurant also provides an exceptional takeaway service where the food is delivered to restaurant quality.
Asked what his message to those who haven’t given the restaurant a go yet would be, Mr Miah said: “Come and try us and you won’t be disappointed. That is my personal guarantee.”
