Days Out: Wolds Way Lavender

If you're looking for a family day out with a difference then head to Wolds Way Lavender.

WOLDS WAY LAVENDER... ....BY REBECCA PENSTON

Set within half a mile of the Wolds Way Walk and surrounded by mature woodland, the family-run 12-acre site near Malton is currently planted with over five acres of lavender.

Take a wander around the farm and enjoy magnificent views – and fragrances - of over 120 different types of lavenders and herbs grown on site, ranging from rich hues of purple to the purest white.

As harvest starts, the lavender is distilled, and essential oil extracted through the process is used in the centre’s beautiful range of creams and oils– all available to buy at Wolds Way Lavender’s shop.

But it’s not just lavender you’ll find on the farm – there’s plenty to keep little ones amused during your visit.

They can ride the Wolds Way Light Railway, a 7.25″ Narrow Gauge Railway, and explore the giant games maze planted in a willow – it’s a living maze that will continue growing and developing for years to come.

There’s also a Timber Trail Play area for children to enjoy before all the family head to the Lavender Tearoom for some refreshments - including farm’s famous home-made lavender scones.

If you’re still feeling energetic after your exploration of the farm, why not take the opportunity to get a taste of the Yorkshire Wolds Way which passes close by.

The 79-mile National Trail attracts thousands of visitors every year, due to the sheer natural beauty of the scenery, the picturesque villages and the opportunity to explore some lesser-known parts of Yorkshire.

It starts at the banks of the mighty Humber estuary, before continuing along wooded slopes and through serene dry valleys, climbing gently onto the airy tops of the rolling hills and finishing on the dramatic headland of Filey Brigg.
