The thrill of being amongst a community, counting down despite the cold snap in the air as a notable name - could be a local, could be a celebrity - flips the switch and your area is illuminated with the wonder of lights filling the dark skies.
It’s a wonderful sensation, but sadly not one that those in Leeds city centre will be able to enjoy, as the council-funded event was scrapped in 2021. However, they have been replaced by the return of the Leeds Christmas Market and the Ice Cube @ Christmas experience.
But for those seeking the true magic of the season, the focus shifts to the local villages and suburbs, from Methley to Horsforth. This year promises a massive wave of local, community-led celebrations.
We’ve picked 13 that have caught our attention this year, all of which are a stone’s throw away from the city centre and accessible by bus, if you want to do the locals a favour and leave the car at home.
Our information is correct as of writing, but as ever if there is a last minute change, do check on the Facebook event pages that are up-and-running for these neighbourhood spectacles.
So, where are we heading to in Leeds to get our annual fix of festive glow?

13. Pudsey (December 7)
The season wraps up with the family-friendly switch-on in Pudsey Town Centre. This weekend event often features community performances, funfair rides, and late-afternoon activities leading up to the main light-up moment. 🎄 Pudsey Town Centre, LS28 5XU | Provided
