Normal opening hours at each of the culture hubs will return over the course of the week as coronavirus restrictions mean they can open their doors again.

2. Thackray Museum
More than 70 years ago the Thackray Medical Museum made its way into NHS history when it changed from a former Victorian warehouse into the original St James' Hospital. Now, The Thackray has closed another chapter on its remarkable history - in a way that very few would have predicted this time last year. Having been the backdrop for 50,000 Covid vaccinations over the past five months, it is now reopening as a museum on May 17.
3. Butterfly Sculpture Workshop
From May 18, you can visit the gorgeous Deer Park Corner at Lotherton for a willow weaving sculpture workshop with local willow artist Wendy Bristow. Learn new skills and enjoy creating a beautiful butterfly sculpture, using traditional techniques and all natural elements to craft your designs. The event must be pre-booked on the Leeds Museums and Galleries website.
4. Leeds Art Gallery exhibition
Leeds Art Gallery celebrates reopening with a new exhibition from Canadian born artist Zadie Xa available from May 18. The exhibition - Moon Poetics 4 Courageous Earth Critters and Dangerous Day Dreamers - marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in the UK. Drawing from a range of fields including ecology, science fiction and ancient religions, Xa explores how beings imagine and inhabit their worlds. Take a journey through multiple dimensions led by five animal guides who speak of the damages caused by industry and resource extraction. Animating the sculptural installation with a three-dimensional soundscape and synchronized lighting, she creates a complete environment, full of voices and presence.
5. Leeds Town Hall
Manchester Collective with Mahan Esfahani is at Leeds Town Hall on May 18 at 7.30pm. They present an international programme built around a thrilling work by a musical outsider. Alongside the world premiere of a new work by British rising star Laurence Osborn, the ensemble will also present a rendition of Górecki’s breakneck Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings, and a set of canons and fugues by Bach, arranged by Esfahani. Tickets are available on the Leeds Town Hall website.
6. Leeds in Conversation podcast
Series two of the city’s dedicated podcast - Leeds in Conversation - gives listeners the unique chance to listen in to conversations between people responsible for shaping how the city grows and develops over the coming months and years. Episode one includes a discussion of the future of Leeds and its districts and episode two is on innovation in Leeds today.
