The South Yorkshire four-piece – frontman Kiaran Crook, his brother and drummer Brandon, lead guitarist Alex Procter and bassist Trent Jackson – today celebrated fan reaction to the forthcoming album’s lead single, Sirens.

A gritty, guitar driven rock number, songwriter Kiaran describes the single as “a standout track which feels like a blueprint for the whole record.”

In an exclusive chat with us he. said: “This song feels like a continuation of the single Falling from our last album. It is towards the darker end of the musical spectrum and one the rockiest tunes we have done. It has a lot of attitude and energy and is the perfect number to come back with. As soon as we started recording it, we knew it had to be the first single.”

Brandon added: “We realised it had the potential to be a big song when we included it during our sound checks when supporting Kaiser Chiefs last year. It sounded huge; it is a track made for big arenas.

But the drummer also says the band knew Sirens was special when the band first played it together at rehearsals at Eiger Studios in Leeds.

He said: “If you can get music sounding good in a practice room with just a couple of guitars and a simple drum kit, then you know you will be onto a winner when you get in the studio. We have a good feeling that this song is going to kick the front door off, and it is an official confirmation that we are back. It is a monster.”

While the band have not played the song at a gig in Great Britain yet, fans in Munich were lucky to hear it live when The Sherlocks slipped it into their set at Kranhalle music venue at the last minute during a tour of Germany in September.

Kiaran explained: “People there thought they knew all our tunes, so you could see them trying to work out whether it was cover or an old song they had missed. But by the time we got to chorus, they realised it was a new number and the reaction was nuts.”

The band have stayed close to home with their fourth album. As well as working with renowned Bring Me The Horizon and The Reytons producer Al Groves, the record was mixed by Nathan Kobierowski, sound engineer for The Sherlocks’ live shows and lead singer of Sheffield band The Warehouse Club.

Kiaran also revealed that some album tracks feature backing vocals and even spoken word from friends in South Yorkshire, family and even fans who were asked to send in inserts for the title song. The video for Sirens also features clips from the band’s O2 Academy Sheffield show in May 2022.

The singer explained: “We have involved people from our Bolton upon Dearne neighbourhood, Sheffield and beyond, and it has helped show more of our personality. It is nice to tie everything together.”

He added: “It’s the opposite to hearing that we have gone to somewhere random like New York to record an album.”

With two top ten albums already under their belts, The Sherlocks will be hoping to match fellow South Yorkshire independent band The Reytons, who are at number one in the album chart this week with their second record, What’s Rock and Roll?, despite, just like The Sherlocks, having no music label or significant industry backing.

Having climbed every step of the touring ladder, from playing Sheffield venues like The Rocking Chair, Harrison 1865, The Foundry, The Leadmill and the main stage at Tramlines, The Sherlocks are known for electrifying sets packed full of hit singles such as Live for The Moment, Magic Man, Will You Be There? and Chasing Shadows.

They last sold out O2 Academy Sheffield in May, performing to more than 2,000 fans, as well as appearing at Hillsborough at half-time at last season’s ill-fated play-off semi-final for Sheffield Wednesday.

They finish their 12 date 2023 UK tour at O2 Academy Sheffield on Saturday 4 November.
