Glastonbury 2021: how to register for tickets, how much they cost - and who is in the line-up for next year’s music festival

Summer must be here, as we’ve already seen the sun set on another Glastonbury Festival.

OK, so this year’s festival didn’t really happen, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to put a stop to thousands of unwashed individuals crowding onto a Somerset farm, but the BBC’s nostalgia-heavy coverage of festivals of the past came close.

Whether recreating the atmosphere as best they could in the back garden, or simply catching a few choice sets on iPlayer across the weekend, many Brits seem to have caught festival fever, and demand for the 2021 iteration of the festival is higher than ever.

So just how can you get your hands on Glastonbury tickets for next year's bash? Are tickets even still available? And what can you do if you had tickets for 2020?

Here’s everything you need to know:

When is Glastonbury 2021?

Arguably the most important piece of information you need to know if you’re looking to attend 2021’s festival is when it actually is.

Festival organisers have confirmed that Glastonbury 2021 will be held from Wednesday 23 – Sunday 27 June 2021.

Will my 2020 tickets roll over to 2021?

“We understand that it is not always easy to secure a Glastonbury ticket,” said festival organisers in their original announcement of the festival’s cancellation.

“Which is why we would like to offer all those people the chance to roll their £50 deposit over to next year, and guarantee the opportunity to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2021.”

Those that would prefer to see their deposit returned to them will be able to contact See Tickets to arrange a refund, an option that will remain available until 15 September 2020 without incurring any cancellation fees.

After this date, cancelling your order will see the usual fees apply – no refunds can be granted beyond 7 May 2021.

Otherwise, deposits will roll over automatically, and you don’t need to do anything if you plan on attending next year’s festival; the rollover applies to general admission, coach packages and accommodation.

Are there any tickets left?

Unsurprisingly, 2020’s Glastonbury sold out rather quickly, as the festival has become known to do in recent years.

So will there even be any tickets available for 2021, if everybody is just rolling this year’s tickets over?

The answers is ‘almost certainly’.

Glastonbury operates a resale period, where tickets not claimed by those who’d put down their deposits are put back on sale. The same will be happening for 2021’s festival.

“Just as we were due to have a resale in April for the 2020 Festival, any tickets for which the deposit is returned before 15th September 2020 will be made available in a ticket sale in early October,” says a statement on the festival website.

“To book tickets in any sale you will first need to be registered.”

It’s likely that more tickets than usual will be available as people’s plans change – just because you’re able to go one year doesn’t mean you could make it the next – so we could see more returned tickets than usual.

Add ongoing coronavirus uncertainty to the mix (though the festival is a full calendar year away at the time of writing, who knows what position the world will be in by that point?), and it could be easier than ever to snag a ‘last minute’ ticket.

How much will tickets cost?

One unfortunate quirk of the ticket rollover system is that although deposits have been paid, the next installments in the ticket payment plan could actually run to a total higher than that of 2020’s ticket prices.

Glastonbury’s admission costs often increase slightly each year, and unfortunately, those who are rolling their tickets over to 2021 will have to stump up for next year's prices.

Full ticket prices will be confirmed in September and the final balance due in April 2021.

Who will play?

The Glastonbury line-up is speculated on, sometimes before the previous year’s festival has even closed its doors, and for 2021 that’s no different.

So just who could be gracing the events iconic Pyramid Stage in 2021?

Many fans will be hoping the line-up will more or less resemble this year’s, with acts and artists simply rolling their bookings over to the following year.

This practice has been seen at other festivals – like Barcelona’s Primavera Sound – and would mean music fans will see Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift in the headline slots just a year on from the original schedule.

However, organisers have not yet confirmed this to be the case, and while they are no doubt looking to secure a line-up that resembles this year’s as closely as possible, that might not be the case.
