“This look is one which is pretty much every woman could wear and most would want to wear,” he says. “It is all about subtle enhancement and definition. It’s about making you look like the A+ version of yourself. It is a look that is very relevant to SS16 trends – there was a lot of hyper-real, healthy skin. You look amazing rather than your make-up.”

HOT HAIR TRENDS FOR SPRING: Multi award-winning hairdresser Robert Eaton, creative director of Russell Eaton salons in Leeds and Barnsley, shares his favourite trends for this coming spring/summer.

1. The micro fringe: Not for wallflowers perhaps, but this bold and stylish look can transform most hair styles and completely update long hair, adding a touch of edge to a more traditional safe style. The micro fringe can work well with a variety of different haircuts and hair types but works perfectly with hair that has a slight texture to it and isn’t overly thick. Robert’s top tip is to play with adding texture and layers to the fringe to give it a more natural look. If taking the plunge and going for a micro fringe is too big step all in one go, Robert advises trying out human hair clip-in fringes. They are the ideal way to test out how a new fringe would look and feel or update your look without the commitment. Robert says: “The clip-in fringe is great to add to a high pony or to insert a little extra dimension to sleek hairstyles.”

2. Twists, Rope Braids and Power Braids: Styles that incorporate or use plaits and twists are a hot trend from the catwalks. Robert says: “Twists and plaits are defiantly one of the season’s hottest looks, they’re super polished and modern.” The secret to these styles is that they look complex and create a really intricate effect, but actually they are relatively easy to recreate yourself. The mix of different types of plaits and twisted textures look amazingly stylish and add real wow factor to a standard or more simplistic style. A braid, twist or plait can be used to create a look on its own or can be playfully weaved into an existing hair do to add extra dimension and intrigue. The versatility of braids, plaits and twist make them ideal for all hair types and with such variety and workability anyone of any skill can achieve a beautiful striking glam do.

3. Playing with Colour: This spring summer there is a great focus on the use of colour. It’s all about beautifully polished, blended tones, using tastefully placed colours. There’s a strong focus on blending layers of colour and placing multi-dimensional tones throughout the hair to create a couture colour look. For blondes there’s a beautiful focus on soft blush hues, infusing the hair with peach and pick tones to create depth and texture. The trend is all about personalising the look by matching the colours that work best with your natural skin tone, “It’s key to work with your stylist to discover the tones and colours that best suit you to achieve your perfect look,” advises Robert. For other colours, there is a definite focus on more luxe results, using metallic shimmer earthy tones such as bronze, rose gold and coppers to re-enliven existing ombre and balayage looks. The aim is to add back in the tonal quality and create glossy results.

4. Bouffants and Volume: Big hair is big news, creating volume and texture for bouffant barnets and beehives, after the catwalks were awash with ‘60s inspired bouffants and exaggerated shapes. A fun retro trend to take inspiration from, although we might not all want the full on bouffant. Try a little bit of backcombing and volume styling products to give hair more body and lift. Robert advises, “Try incorporating the trend on a smaller scale to a ponytail adding high volume to the crown.”
