A popular celebration of African and Caribbean culture is set to take over the heart of Leeds this weekend as it moves to an iconic new city centre location for its sixth outing.

The Living Square: Rooted in Harmony - African & Caribbean Food Fest, organised by Nubian Noire, will take place at Leeds City Square, running from 10am to 6pm.

Taking place ahead of Bank Holiday Monday's iconic Leeds West Indian Carnival, the free-to-attend community event aims to bring people from all backgrounds together to celebrate food, music, heritage, and community spirit.

Visitors can expect street food vendors from across the city offering a wide array of authentic African and Caribbean cuisine, alongside live steel pan music performances, children's activities, and cultural experiences throughout the day.

The event also serves as a crucial platform for local Black-owned food businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and connect with the wider Leeds community.

Event organiser, Dionne Edwards said: "Living Square: Rooted in Harmony is about creating a shared space where people from different backgrounds can come together, connect and celebrate the richness and diversity of African and Caribbean culture."

Founded in June 2019 by cultural producer Dionne Edwards, Nubian Noire originally launched as a platform to support young and emerging Black entrepreneurs by providing business support, networking, and outdoor trading spaces.

Over the past six years, the organisation has grown into a major driver for local economic inclusion, partnering with regional institutions and showcasing creative talent from across West Yorkshire and beyond.
