Brontë sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne grew up in the pretty West Yorkshire village of Haworth, and its quaint cobbled main street with its range of shops was familiar territory to the talented family.

Now the bustling street’s popular wholefood shop is for sale, offering a rare chance for a new owner to enjoy the benefits of running a unique business in the popular tourist village.

Haworth Whole Foods sells organic fruit and vegetables and specialises in vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food, all of which are currently enjoying a massive rise in interest. It also sells herbal remedies, vitamins, supplements and chocolate and crisps, and has a small café area selling tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches, salads and soups.

It is also one of the first shops of its kind in the county to offer shoppers ‘zero waste’ options, with its range of refillable items - from shampoos to household cleaners, body washes to household products, cereals to nuts and seeds.

They also specialise in plastic free options – like beeswax wraps to replace clingfilm, unwrapped soaps, wooden combs and brushes etc.

This is a massive movement and not only appeals to the many visitors to the area, but to the strong local client base which is embracing a more environmentally friendly approach.

As well as offering fresh and store cupboard products which are often hard to find elsewhere, the shop also attracts people keen to try out its range of hugely popular Pennine Pasties; vegetarian pasties which are made especially for the shop and which have become a huge attraction for locals and visitors.

The Haworth shop’s location couldn’t be better – it’s right at the heart of the village’s Main Street, just a stone’s throw from the Georgian home where the Brontë sisters lived.

The Brontë Parsonage Museum, their beautifully preserved former home attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year keen to see how they lived.

Haworth village is also popular among steam train enthusiasts - the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway stops at the picturesque village station.

The village is also just ten miles west of Bradford, making it within easy commuting distance.

The business opened in 2016 and is being sold so owner Sally Hayes can concentrate on running her other shop in West Yorkshire.

She said: “Haworth is a charming and quaint village, virtually nothing has changed since the days of the Brontë sisters.

“The shop is at the top of Main Street, there’s a beautiful church in the middle and visitors often walk up and down just enjoying the atmosphere and character.

“The Brontë Parsonage Museum attracts people from all over the world, while there are plenty of self-catering holiday cottages nearby where people stay to just enjoy the area and pop into the village to stock up.”

The rustic-style shop has freezers and chill cabinets which feature a stock of original and locally supplied readymade foods, and a hot pie serving station.

The new owners will have access to current suppliers, plus the shop’s lively website and well-established social media sites.

Haworth Wholefoods is being sold through leading business agents Ernest Wilson, which has more than 40 years’ experience helping people find their ideal business.

A spokesperson said: “Haworth is a charming and very popular village thanks to its Brontë sisters’ links, the steam railway and the beautiful countryside.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to run a unique business that ticks a lot of boxes for today’s consumers and is right in the middle of a street packed with literary history.”
