Yorkshire golf: Beginners' chance to be put on right path with free lessons

There is also a good chance that you know someone who, at one time or another, you have tried to persuade – without success – to take up the game.

Now you have an opportunity to ask them again with the possibility of them being set on the path to good golf with a series of free lessons.

Leeds Golf Centre, the UK base of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, are launching a challenge that will give 16 complete beginners an opportunity to get into golf.

The Up to Scratch Challenge will see Leeds Golf Centre’s top-class instructors attempt to turn golf beginners into competent players in just a matter of weeks.

Amateurs can apply for a chance to take advantage of eight weeks of free tuition from Leeds Golf Centre’s PGA professionals and certified Leadbetter Instructors, culminating in a knockout challenge.

The chosen beginners will receive an hour of tuition twice a week over an eight-week period in July and August, culminating in a three-hole knockout event, taking place on Sunday, September 11 at Leeds Golf Centre.

Entries close on Sunday, July 10. You must be over the age of 16 and a complete beginner to participate and available on agreed dates.

All equipment will be provided.
