Browne, who trains at Wakefield Gymnastics Club, claimed second spot in the hotly-contested final on Friday, scoring an impressive 77.900 points. Already the reigning world bronze medallist, Elliott went one better this year after wowing both the crowd and the judges.

The current British Champion said: “It feels amazing!

“It’s been a bit of a rocky road coming here but training in St Petersburg has gone really well. I competed the same two routines from the British championships. I was really happy with both my passes, I was nervous for the first run and for the second I had to work towards the end but I’m so happy. It’s hard to sum up how I feel having this medal – it’s amazing”.

Browne was joined in the final by fellow Brit and previous World Champion Kristof Willerton, who finished in fourth.
