Why a draw would be a good result at Tottenham Hotspur - YEP Leeds United jury

DESPITE celeberating back-to-back wins, two clean sheets and five goals in their last outing against West Brom, our Leeds United fans’ jury is very much of the opinion that a draw would be a ‘good result’ for the Whites at Tottenham.

Not one juror is bold enough to predict victory for Leeds - who have struggled in the capital of late - and three of the six have gone for a home win.

Check out their thinking as to why a share of the spoils is, perhaps, all Leeds can hope for ...

After two outstanding results home and away, Leeds now travel to Spurs hoping for more of the same.

For Leeds, 2020 ended with two very different types of victories against sides struggling at the bottom. Burnley was tough and far from easy, while against West Brom, Leeds showed the swagger we all expect.

Against Spurs, Bielsa will face another of the league’s tactical masterminds. Jose Mourinho will have a plan to stop Leeds in their tracks and an extra rest in midweek will help their cause.

United’s makeshift defence will have to stop the free-scoring combination of Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, while Spurs’ own miserly defence will be in for a serious test.

Raphinha will be hoping to continue his fine form, while Jack Harrison and Rodrigo were also on the scoresheet in midweek. We all know Leeds’ recent record in London but any United game this season could see any result.

One thing is for certain, though, Mourinho versus Bielsa is set to be a cracker.

I continue to be amazed at how far this team has come since Marcelo Bielsa arrived.

Every time we have a setback we come back stronger. To beat two ‘relegation rivals’ back to back and score six goals without reply is the perfect antidote to the stinging defeat at Old Trafford two weeks ago. We never feel sorry for ourselves and the performances by players written off in the past - Stuart Dallas and Gianni Alioski to name two - have been fantastic. Keeping consecutive Premier League clean sheets with a rookie goalkeeper and your fifth- and sixth-choice centre-backs is an achievement that has been too easily overlooked.

Tottenham will provide a much tougher test than Burnley or West Brom but we can play with that bit more freedom having banked six points since Christmas day.

Taking our chances will be crucial. If Tottenham grab an early goal or two or are able to keep us out until the dying moments, then they could take a simple win. A point would be a good result but I’d rather have three.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 2.

Leeds results recently confirm what we’d already guessed; against sides fighting in mid-table or lower we can up maximum points and put on a show but when we face the mega-rich sides, those with that extra individual sharpness and quality we need to be at our best AND have ‘lady luck’ with us to get points off them.

Hence, we disposed of Newcastle and West Brom but came up short at Old Trafford. We have to accept that Spurs are going to be a very different challenge to the Toon and the Albion and will be more akin to what we saw from Man U. They have quality players in every position and the likes of Harry Kane and Son are capable of turning a game with a moment of inspiration and they are unlikely to be giving us Christmas gifts like Romaine Sawyers did at the Hawthorns!

Nevertheless, sides have garnered points at White Hart Lane this season including Newcastle and West Ham so we should not dismiss the possibility we could too. I think the sensible money though says they will edge this one.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 1.

Leeds looked to be facing another tricky challenge against West Brom.

Sam Allardyce had been appointed manager and, when the Baggies went to Liverpool and scraped a draw, the ship appeared to be steadying as ‘the new-manager bounce’ seemed to be taking effect. When Leeds came to town, the effect looked more like ‘the dead-cat bounce’ as the Whites tore West Brom apart.

Despite all of their achievements, Bielsa and his team are still widely misunderstood.

They have demonstrated their right to play in the Premier League in an emphatic fashion. The gap in class between the Whites and West Brom and Fulham is demonstrated by the number of points that they have each accrued.

Spurs will present a different type of challenge. They are formidable opponents under any circumstances and this is a fascinating encounter.

They will not be feared however and, as long as United continue to follow plan ‘A’, we will be happy, irrespective of the result.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 2.

Leeds showed at The Hawthorns what a team they can be.

The 5-0 hammering of West Brom was a masterclass with United being 4-0 up before 40 minutes had been played.

An amazing performance by ‘the men in maroon’; they were just untouchable. This Saturday brings Leeds’ first-ever visit to Tottenham’s new billion-pound stadium in North London.

I’ve been there (for an NFL game last October) and can say, without doubt, it is an amazing ground. With London being in tier 4 and West Yorkshire in tier 3, unfortunately no fans will be able to follow my footsteps and visit it this season. But, if Leeds play the way they have in their last two games, they can get something out of their trip to London. It’s a long time since they have gained a victory in the capital; they may have to wait again but I’m certain they will give Spurs a tough challenge and a draw isn’t beyond them.

With six points won over Christmas - a rarity for Leeds - it is doubtful that Marcelo Bielsa will alter his starting XI unless there were injuries after the game with West Brom.

Man of the match, Gjanni Alioski, had a superb game on the left-hand side against the Baggies and got his third goal of the season. It was hard to pick out one player as all 14 on duty deserved so much credit.

Spurs, for their part, have already given Man U a heavy beating and, until recently, have been pretty impressive to watch with Son and England captain Harry Kane regularly amongst the club’s goal scorers.

‘The Special One’, Jose Mourinho, has made them into a team that is hard to beat and very freescoring.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1 Leeds United 1.

2020 has been an iconic year in our history, with Leeds United playing a major part in that.

The question now is, what will 2021 bring?

Saturday promises to be another classic, like so many we have been lucky to be involved in so far this season.

If the Leeds United of Tuesday evening turn up, then we may not have to fear the Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min partnership as much as one may have previously.

West Brom, bless them.

The Baggies were hit by Leeds’ second five-goal haul of the season, with United putting in a stunning performance at the Hawthorns in midweek. And Patrick Bamford didn’t even score.

Another one we are all absolutely gutted to have missed out on being there to witness.

If anyone from the Tottenham camp saw that mesmerising display, they will certainly be nervous to face us.

We definitely won’t be changing our style of play that’s for sure… And to help matters, Spurs aren’t in the best form.

They have drawn with Crystal Palace and Wolves and have lost to Liverpool and Leicester in recent matches, following a rampant start to the campaign.

Goals should be a guarantee, yet the outcome less predictable.

We will, of course, play to win which is what the vast majority (barring a few questionable opinions!) adore about this Leeds team.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3 Leeds United 2.
