Rugby Union: Depledge puts boot in to lead Otley's Broadstreet parade

While Harrogate's game at leaders Macclesfield was postponed, Otley pulled clear as the leading Yorkshire side in National Two North when they scored a 19-12 win at Broadstreet.

They largely had the boot of scrum-half Stephen Depledge to thank for the win. He kicked first-half penalties as they trailed 7-6 at the break, but when winger James Wood raced over on the hour mark Depledge added the conversion and two further penalties to secure the points.

Sandal went down 26-15 at Caldy despite tries from flanker James Briscoe and hooker Jamie Heron, while tailenders Huddersfield suffered a 30-13 defeat at mid-table Chester. Prop Alex Battye and left-wing Lewis Workman scored Huddersfield’s tries, with Chris Bell adding a penalty.

With leaders Sheffield Tigers’ Dore Moor pitch unfit for the game against Stockport, fifth-placed Sheffield kept the city’s hopes alive with a 14-5 win over Cleckheaton at Abbeydale Park. No 8 Jonny France went over twice late in the first half to give his side a lead which they duly protected despite a second-half revival from the visitors.

Hull ran out 44-19 winners at home against Rossendale.

Winger Karim Nazir ran in two tries for Hull, and while replacement off-half Tomasi Tanumi kicked three conversions and a penalty. Other Hull tries came from winger Will Robinson, flanker Ben Sullivan, centre Alex Heard second row Lee Brown and scrum-half Harvey Harding.

Huddersfield YMCA, next to bottom, suffered another 25-13 setback on their visit to third placed Lymm, who had beaten Sheffield a week earlier.

Doncaster Phoenix maintained their dominance of North One East with a 29-0 victory at neighbours Wheatley Hills.

With a four-try bonus, Phoenix are now 23 points clear of second-placed Morley, who now have two games in hand after their home match against Dinnington was called off.

Left winger Josh Fowler scored a bonus fourth try for Phoenix in the last ten minutes.

Driffield were unlucky to go down 30-25 at Percy Park despite scoring four tries to three and picking up two bonus points.

Pocklington came away empty handed from Alnwick, where a solid defence saw the home side to a 15-0 win.

A bonus-point 30-23 win at tailenders West Park Leeds saw Malton and Norton overtake Bradford and Bingley at the head of Yorkshire One.

Tries came from centre Rhys Bowdich, scrum-half Zweli Sodladla, flanker Sam Triffitt and prop Rob Featherstone.

Bradford and Bingley had to fight from 13-0 down and were restricted to three tries in a 22-13 home win over Hullensians, but have two matches in hand over Malton.

Hullensians caught the Bees cold, going ahead with an early interception tries. Lachlan Moore scored twice and his fellow centre Taylor Fiddes also touched down as the home side staged their second-half rally.

Bridlington maintained third place with a 19-0 home win over North Ribblesdale.

Fly-half Kieran Davies scored all Yarnbury’s points in a 13-3 home win over Old Crossleyans.

West Leeds defended their Yorkshire Two lead with a 33-7 home win over Pontefract, winger Jack Marshall scoring two of their four tries.
