HARROGATE TOWN manager Simon Weaver said he was still 'hurting' over his side's midweek 3-2 defeat to National League promotion rivals Salford City.

The men from Wetherby Road were on top for large periods and led twice in the first half, but ultimately ended up empty-handed after gifting their hosts three goals.

“It’s so frustrating because we’ve gone there and played some superb stuff going forwards but then come away with nothing because of three defensive lapses,” Weaver reflected.

“Salford didn’t have to work hard for any of their goals. They all could have been avoided. I don’t think that we were unlucky, you can’t visit a place like Salford, give them three goals and still expect something from the game. Scoring twice away from home should be enough get a result.

“Just because we’ve done well so far this season doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt when you suffer a result like this. We’re hurting and disappointed and we need to learn from this experience.”

Town face a lengthy trip to the south coast to tackle Maidenhead United tomorrow.

United lie in 20th position in the Vanarama National League standings after 21 games, but head into the contest in decent form having picked up four points from their last two games.

In National North tomorrow, Bradford Park Avenue travel to third-placed AFC Telford United.
