Guiseley 1 Maidenhead 3: Caretaker manager optimistic despite Lions' seventh successive defeat

Bottom-of-the-table Guiseley were defeated for a seventh time in a row, after losing to Maidenhead United 3-1 at Nethermoor.

The hosts put in an encouraging display but Maidenhead were more clinical with Jake Hyde and Harry Pritchard both impressing and getting on the scoresheet.

After the loss, interim manager Sean St Ledger reflected on the defeat, saying: “I saw some positives but we conceded some goals that were disappointing from a defensive point of view.

“I’m here in this role until I’m told otherwise. we have plenty to work on.”

The winners had the better start with Hyde seeing his header go in, but it was disallowed for offside.

The next attack saw Hyde force Guiseley goalkeeper Luke Coddington into a smart save, his effort from the edge of the area nearly went into the bottom right-hand corner.

The hosts, though, took the lead when a smart pass by Will Hatfield found Dayle Southwell who cut into the area and placed his shot past Maidenhead stopper Carl Pentney.

Hyde, who was a constant threat for the visitors levelled the scores up, when a cross wasn’t cleared and it fell to the forward who made no mistake from five yards out.

This was a back-and-forth game, but it was Maidenhead who were more clinical.

And a ball over the top of the defence found Harry Pritchard, and he turned calmly and fired an effort into the bottom corner.

Moments into the second half Maidenhead doubled their advantage, a quick break from a corner led to a two-on-one and Pritchard was fed through to make it 3-1.

The visitors had a number of chances and got in good positions and with the advantage their confidence grew.

Alan Devonshire’s side controlled the tempo as well and saw the game out, leaving with three points, as Guiseley next face AFC Fylde at home on Tuesday night.
