Win highlights the Hawks' potential

The 46-12 demolition was Bramald’s first competitive win as coach and came a week after an iPro Cup defeat to another of Hawks’ league rivals York City Knights.

Bramald described Hunslet’s performance as “fantastic” and said: “That may be as well as we can play, but if it is I think it will be enough to take care of most teams in our division.

“If we can reproduce that and add some bits on top, we will go well.

“Barrow have a strong pack and are really experienced.

“And it was great to see our boys mix it with them and get over the top of them.”

Hawks, who begin their league campaign at Rochdale Hornets on Sunday, have two injury concerns following the weekend win over the Cumbrians.

Michael Haley went to hospital after suffering a facial injury in a clash of heads with a Barrow player.

And Jimmy Watson took a knock to his ribs.

Bramald said: “I am waiting to hear from Micky. Jimmy wanted to stay on, but the game was won at that stage so we took him off as a precaution.

“Apart from that we have got the usual bumps and bruises, but nothing serious.”
