Why ex-Wakefield Triinity loanee Morgan Escare's exit from Wigan Warriors could mean early Castleford Tigers move for Niall Evalds

French full-back Morgan Escare, who had a spell on loan at Wakefield Trinity last year, has left Wigan Warriors - and that may have implications for Castleford Tigers.

Escare is being linked with a move to Salford Red Devils - which could persuade them to release Niall Evalds to Castleford for the rest of this season.

Salford confirmed last month that England Knights full-back Evalds has rejected a new contract and will leave the club at the end of the 2020 campaign.

He is understood to have signed for Tigers, though they have yet to confirm the coup.

Jordan Rankin, who had been playing as Tigers' last line of defence, was released from his contract last month and has returned to his native Australia.

If Escare now joins Salford, they may be willing to allow Evalds to begin his Tigers contract immediately rather than having to wait until next year.

Escare's Wigan contract has been ended "by mutual consent". The former Catalans Dragons player made his Warriors debut in 2017 and was a Grand Final winner the following year.

Wigan executive director, Kris Radlinski said: "With the limited opportunities to find a game for Morgan and with the cancellation of the reserve programme for 2020, it was felt the best thing by all was to allow Morgan to find another club for the remainder of 2020 and secure a contract for 2021 and beyond.

"We thank him for his commitment to Wigan over the last few years and we wish him well for the rest of his career.”
