Trinity will aim to get off the mark, at the second attempt, when they play host to Warrington Wolves on Sunday.

Injuries had a bearing on Wakefield’s pre-season and their opening defeat at Hull KR, but players are beginning to return and Tanginoa reckons, when they are at full-strength, Trinity can match anyone in the competition.

“We’ve got the boys here, especially the coaching staff,” the former Manly Sea Eagles man insisted.

“It didn’t go the way we wanted to last year, but that was due to injuries and things.

“What we are building here at the moment, especially with the boys coming back, I think we can get the competition quite a shake,

“Having new players and trying to adjust to new roles will take a couple of rounds, but then we’ll see.”

Trinity are itching to get their boots back on after 16 days to brood over their 30-12 drubbing in round one.

Storm Ciara put paid to their hopes of getting back on the horse last Sunday, when the visit of Catalans Dragons was postponed and Tanginoa insisted: “Everyone is pretty keen.

“We can’t wait to go. Of course it wasn’t the game we wanted against Hull KR and we should prove ourselves this weekend.

“Everyone is looking fresh and I’m really excited to play.”

Warrington will also be well rested and in confident mood after whitewashing champions St Helens 19-0 in round two, nine days ago.

“They have started off this season pretty good and strong and are, by far, the best side at the moment given the players they have,” Tanginoa noted.

“But it will be good for us to showcase what we have and put up a good performance.

“If we can put our best foot forward we can challenge them, especially with the conditions and the weather forecast.

“Everything will be played really tight and it will be pretty interesting.”

Storm Dennis is expected to have a bearing tomorrow and Tanginoa admitted: “When it’s raining you sort of don’t pass or offload or ship the ball as much.

“Everyone seems to play just more direct and I think that will play a big part for both teams.”

This is Tanginoa’s first winter in England after he joined Trinity midway through last year.

“The weather at the moment, I am just trying to adapt to that,” he conceded.

“Wet weather footy plays a big part in how I play.

“I guess I’m just used to playing on dry land and I’m adjusting to the weather at the moment, but I’m getting there.”

Jordan Crowther (facial) and George King (ankle) are both in contention for tomorrow after recovering from injuries suffered in the Boxing Day game at Leeds Rhinos, but Ryan Atkins drops out.

England Test half-back Gareth Widdop is set to make his Warrington debut.
