Watson’s latest injury took the gloss off the Parksiders’ 62-10 success at London Skolars, which completed back-to-back wins in Betfred League One.

“He went down in the opening minute with an Achilles injury,” coach Gary Thornton said of Watson, who had just returned from knee damage suffered in pre-season.

“He had no one near him, it was bizarre and we all felt for him.

“He’s a very important and popular member of the squad.”

That was a blot on an otherwise impressive hit out for Hunslet.

Thornton added: “Other than the injury to Jimmy, I have to be very satisfied.

“Our fitness, which had been an issue in the opening weeks of the season, has improved, while Mikey Wood – our big signing from Newcastle - was terrific on his debut and, with Zach Braham and Alex Rowe, set a strong platform.

“Sion Jones and Joe McClean made big contributions off the bench and Vila Halafihi gave us plenty of spark at hooker on his return from injury and scored a valuable hat-trick.

“Lots of things pleased me.

“We’re getting close to where we want to be.”

Centre Tom Ashton suffered a dead leg and could be a doubt for Sunday’s home game against Doncaster.
