Trinity were beaten 45-20 at the Jungle two days ago in a game which confirmed Tigers as league leaders.

Wakefield began round three in fourth place and if they are there at the end of the Super-8s they will travel to Castleford for a sudden-death play-off.

Trinity’s next match is a four-pointer at Salford on September 1 and Lyne said: “We have four massive games coming up.

“We are in with a really good chance and confidence is still high. We have got a week off and we’ll train hard in that week and look forward to the Salford game.

“It would be good to get straight back into it, but it gives us time to do some quality work on the training field and build for Salford.”

Asked about the prospect of returning to the Jungle with a Grand Final appearance at stake, Lyne added: “We spoke about it in the changing rooms, getting fourth spot and going back there in the play-offs. The last two games against Cas have been evenly-matched and we are confident still.”

Trinity trailed by only two points early in Thursday’s second half and Lyne reckons they competed better than the scoreline suggests.

“I think it was two evenly-matched teams,” he said. “We just needed to swing the momentum when they went back-to-back, but we couldn’t manage to do that and they ran away with it a bit.

“I thought we started well and we carried that intensity over from last week. We know we are a good team when we complete and get into that grind.

“We just need to get into it a bit more. We lost our way a bit and panicked a bit and the game got away from us.”

Lyne played in the Million Pound Match 22 months ago when Trinity beat Bradford Bulls to remain in Super League.

“We have come a long way,” he reflected. “We have a really tight group here and I think that shows out on the pitch. We’ve got no super stars, we have to work hard and complete high to give ourselves a chance. When we do that we usually come out with a win.”
