Wakefield Trinity hoping for a Brough return at Salford Red Devils

Injured pivot Danny Brough will be given as long as possible to prove his fitness for Wakefield Trinity’s trip to Salford Red Devils on Sunday.

Brough has missed three games after injuring a knee in Trinity’s Betfred Super League round one defeat at Hull KR.

But Ryan Hampshire, who took over in the halves, suffered a broken jaw against Castleford Tigers last week and could be out until April, leaving Trinity with a lack of play-makers.

“It is just going to be physio-led,” Wakefield coach Chris Chester said of Brough’s chances of returning this week.

“He ran on Monday and jumped in the session. Broughy will train again [today], Thursday and Saturday and we will see how he is towards the back end of the week.”

Chester admitted Hampshire’s injury leaves Trinity “short” in the halves, but said there are players in the squad who can step in.

“Max Jowitt has played a little bit in there in the friendlies and last year with the reserve grade,” he said. “Connor Bailey played exceptionally well at the weekend for the reserves, so there are two guys there that can give it a go.

“And we have got people like Kyle Wood and Josh Wood, so there are some options there. We have just got to get on with it.

“Injuries like this happen all year, I just hope we have got rid of the bad luck.”
