“Mash [Applegarth] was particularly positive around his character and his drive to be the best version of himself. Danny will be one of three hookers and he’s excited to learn and compete for a spot in our 17.”

A former Stanningley junior, Barcoe said: “York have got great facilities and a great stadium.

"It will be good to get my first opportunity at a great club.

"I’m a very quick hooker who is good with ball at hand. I can hold my ground in defence and put in a good stint and, in attack, I like to play quick and when I see an opportunity I try to take it at the right time."

Of Dodd, Ford said: “Harry is a young man I’m really excited about working with.

"He demonstrated a high level of potential in Wakefield’s reserve side and I was very impressed with his maturity, commitment and drive when I met him.

“Harry will be competing with some experienced forwards for an opportunity and it will be exciting to watch him develop and compete for a starting spot.”

Dodd said: "Just seeing what York have achieved over the last couple of years is something that I’d love to be a part of.

They are an ambitious club and ambition is something I thrive on.

“I will always put 100 per cent effort in and give it my all, on and off the pitch.”
