Wakefield Trinity coach Chris Chester left fuming by another “rubbish” display

“SAME RUBBISH, different week” - that was coach Chris Chester’s summary of Wakefield Trinity’s fifth defeat in as many Betfred Super League games since lockdown ended.

Trinity were beaten 29-6 in their Thursday afternoon ‘home’ fixture at Huddersfield Giants and Chester admitted his team were “miles off”.

To add to Wakefield’s woes, they lost winger Liam Kay with a shoulder injury inside the opening 10 minutes, but Chester made no excuses.

He said: “It’s not good enough, not acceptable. We are in a tough spot at the minute and we are just not seeing enough fight from the players.

“Something has got to change, we are in a bit of a rut.”

Chester felt new signing from London Broncos Eddie Battye was Trinity’s best player on his debut, but admitted: “I was really disappointed with some individuals. I have seen some individuals jump out of the way of tackles and that’s a first for me.”

The coach added: “We started the game pretty strong, again - the first 15-16 minutes, then we get to that 16th minute mark and we implode, either through a poor kicking game, poor execution or blatant one-on-one missed tackles.

“This is the hardest six-seven weeks I’ve had as a coach and things don’t look to be changing any time soon.

“It’s frustrating because there’s a decent team in there, it all boils down to attitude and we are miles off - we seem further and further away from the rest of the competition.

Of Kay, Chester said: “He doesn’t look great, it looks like an a/c has popped out.”

It was Giants’ first win since lockdown ended and an impressive start for Luke Robinson who was appointed caretaker-coach the day before the game.
